When Street Photography meets wildlife Documentary ?

After years focusing and shooting naturally contrasted shadows and saturated colors while working on The Straw Conspiracy project, I felt the need to explore a radically different technique. What about flash by day? Flash by day always fascinated me.

I still wanted to focus on telling a local yet universal story.

I started to spend time on Plaça de Catalunya, the main central square in Barcelona. It’s always crowded with pigeons and humans, the latter being a delicate mix of both local families having a break with small kids running wild around the feathered creatures, and tourists seemingly following this strange and unwritten rule I still cannot really grasp: “Wherever you go, you ought to feed the local population of city pigeons and take a picture of the moment. You’d preferably share it in your social media afterwards”.

And here am I, with a tiny flash, in the middle of the square, balancing Barcelona’s strong natural light with a burst of flash light. Here is my newest ongoing project! It still doesn’t have a name. Pigeons? Feathers? Of men and feathers?
